چکیده

The Center for Expanded Data Annotation and Retrieval (CEDAR) aims to revolutionize the way that metadata describing scientific experiments are authored. The software we have developed3⁄4the CEDAR Workbench3⁄4is a suite of Web-based tools and REST APIs that allows users to construct metadata templates, to fill in templates to generate high-quality metadata, and to share and manage these resources. The CEDAR Workbench provides a versatile, RESTbased environment for authoring metadata that are enriched with terms from ontologies. The metadata are available as JSON, JSON-LD, or RDF for easy integration in scientific applications and reusability on the Web. Users can leverage our APIs for validating and submitting metadata to external repositories. The CEDAR Workbench is freely available and open-source.

Embracing Semantic Technology for Better Metadata Authoring in Biomedicine

The Center for Expanded Data Annotation and Retrieval (CEDAR) has developed a suite of tools and services that allow scientists to create and publish metadata describing scientific experiments. Using these tools and services—referred to collectively as the CEDAR Workbench—scientists can collaboratively author metadata and submit them to public repositories. A key focus of our software is semant...

Supporting Ontology-Based Standardization of Biomedical Metadata in the CEDAR Workbench

The availability of associated descriptive metadata for scientific datasets is important for discovering and reproducing scientific experiments. The use of ontologies has become a key focus for increasing the quality of these metadata. Despite the wide availability of biomedical ontologies, scientists wishing to use these ontologies when developing metadata descriptions face a number of practic...

Making Online Datasets More Searchable and Accessible: The CEDAR project

Scientists increasingly are archiving their data in online repositories to promote open science and data reuse. The ability to find and access datasets that are stored in these repositories depends on the quality of the associated metadata. There is a growing set of community developed standards for defining such metadata often in the form of metadata templates. The practical difficulties of wo...

An Educational Ontology based on Metadata Standards

In this paper, we present EUME Onto, an educational ontology that describe terms of learning design, contents and resources. This ontology is intended to (1) organize the available information; and (2) provide the grounds of the knowledge based for an Intelligent Learning Management System. EUME Onto is based on metadata standards such as IMSEML, LOM 1484, OASIS DocBook and FIPA Ontology Device...

Fast and Accurate Metadata Authoring Using Ontology-Based Recommendations

In biomedicine, high-quality metadata are crucial for finding experimental datasets, for understanding how experiments were performed, and for reproducing those experiments. Despite the recent focus on metadata, the quality of metadata available in public repositories continues to be extremely poor. A key difficulty is that the typical metadata acquisition process is time-consuming and error pr...
